Jamshedpur, April 1: Bharatiya Janata Party leaders put up a demonstration before the office of the drinking water and sanitation department at Mango to demand water supply to local households the second day here on Saturday. One of them Vikas Singh reportedly attempted self-immolation on the occasion, but failed.
The situation turned normal when state Food Minister cum MLA of Jamshedpur Saryu Roy West made arrangements to provide water supply in some areas of Mango by 2 pm. He got the alternative facility for water supply in place to give some relief to the Mango residents. The Mango residents felt relieved after getting water at the initiative of the minister.
The BJP leaders said that as a result of inaction on part of the district administration, Mango residents were compelled to take to the streets in support of their demand. They decided to sit on dharna in support of their demand for the last many years. The BJP leaders raised slogans against the department authorities and demanded that adequate drinking water be supplied to the local residents.
The moment Vikas Singh tried to immolate himself, police officers on duty snatched the kerosene jars from his possession and poured cold water on his body to foil his bid. The self-immolation plan was reportedly pre-planned, sources said.
