BJP Joins Turamdih Mines Protest; Arjun Munda Demands Justice for Displaced Families

Jamshedpur: A massive sit-in protest was organized on Monday under the banner of the Turamdih Displaced Committee at the Turamdih Mines Gate in Sundarnagar. The demonstrators demanded respect, rights, and just rehabilitation for the displaced families of the Turamdih area.

The movement was supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jamshedpur Mahanagar. Led by BJP Jamshedpur Mahanagar President Sanjeev Sinha, hundreds of party workers participated to raise their voices in support of the displaced families. Prominent attendees included former Chief Minister and former Union Minister Arjun Munda, and several senior BJP leaders.

Struggle Will Continue Until Demands Are Met: Arjun Munda

Addressing the protest, Munda termed the demands of the displaced families completely justified. He called for continuing the agitation until it reaches a positive conclusion and a resolution is achieved.

• Broken Promises: Munda highlighted that an agreement was previously reached between the company management and the displaced/affected villagers of Nandup. However, the management has taken no initiative to implement that agreement on the ground.
• Ignored Memorandums: He added that no concrete action has been taken so far on the memorandum of demands submitted by the affected families.

The former Chief Minister questioned the working style of the company management, accusing them of ignoring the years-old grievances of the locals while showing undue favour to the local MLA. He demanded that the management clarify the reasons behind this bias, asserting that the neglect of the rights of displaced families will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Houses, Farms, and Religious Sites Acquired

Sinha pointed out that during the establishment of the Turamdih Mines, numerous families from Nandup Mauza bore the brunt of displacement. Their homes, agricultural lands, and traditional places of worship and religious sites were acquired for the project, yet several crucial issues remain unresolved to this day. He reiterated that the BJP has always stood for the rights, respect, and fair rehabilitation of the displaced and will continue to strongly advocate for them.

Management Steps In for Talks

During the protest, a delegation from the UCIL (Uranium Corporation of India Limited) Turamdih management arrived at the protest site for discussion. Detailed talks were held between the representatives of the displaced families, public leaders, and the company management.

Key Focus Areas of the Talks: Long-pending demands, employment, rehabilitation, compensation, and other basic amenities.

The company management assured that they would seriously consider the demands and take necessary initiatives and positive action toward resolving them. During the protest, the Turamdih Displaced Committee also handed over a detailed memorandum to the management, seeking swift resolution of pending issues and ensuring employment, rehabilitation, and other rights for the affected families.
