Activists Burn Effigy of Mamata Banerjee
Jamshedpur: Political backlash intensified across the country against the West Bengal government for failing to follow protocol during President Droupadi Murmu’s state visit to Bidhannagar, near Siliguri. BJP workers expressed deep resentment over the issue, accusing the Mamata Banerjee administration of disrespecting the President.
To protest the West Bengal government’s conduct, BJP Jamshedpur Metropolis activists gathered at the Jubilee Park roundabout in Sakchi to burn an effigy of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. During the protest, workers shouted slogans against the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, labeling the incident shameful and a violation of democratic dignity.
An Attack on Santhal Heritage and the Constitution
During the protest, BJP Jamshedpur Metropolis President Sanjeev Sinha launched a sharp attack on the West Bengal government, calling their actions arrogant. He noted that President Murmu visited Bengal to participate in a major festival of the Santhal community.
“Instead of showing respect to the President, the TMC government boycotted the Santhal community’s program,” Sinha said. “The Bengal government abandoned the President’s event to mismanagement and showed complete indifference. This acts as an insult not only to the President but also to the Constitution of India.”
Sinha emphasized that the presidency represents the highest office in the democracy and sits above partisan politics. He maintained that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should have prioritized the President’s dignity during a state visit. He demanded an immediate apology from Banerjee to the nation and urged the people of West Bengal to stand up for their state’s identity and democratic values.
