BJP Delegation Meets Jamshedpur DC Over Sand Crisis and Infiltration

Jamshedpur: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation met East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan on Tuesday, and raised the twin issues of the artificial sand crisis paralyzing local housing projects and suspected attempts by illegal infiltrators to enter the district’s electoral rolls.

Led by former BJP State President Dr. Dineshanand Goswami, alongside Jamshedpur Mahanagar President Sanjeev Sinha and East Singhbhum District President Satya Tiwari, the delegation submitted a formal memorandum demanding immediate administrative intervention on both fronts.

The delegation primarily targeted the acute shortage and skyrocketing prices of sand, which they argue has brought local welfare schemes to a grinding halt. The leaders demanded that the administration ensure an accessible supply of sand at reasonable rates for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and the state-run Abua Awas Yojana.

According to the BJP leaders, the artificial scarcity has slowed the progress of the Central Government’s flagship PMAY scheme. They noted that ordinary citizens building private homes are also being squeezed by the black market, forced to purchase essential construction materials at exorbitant prices.

“For the last six and a half years, the illegal sand mining trade has been thriving under state patronage in the district,” Goswami alleged. “The mining mafia is openly plundering natural resources from our rivers—particularly the Subarnarekha River—while the poor and needy cannot get a single basket of sand to construct their homes.” The delegation called for an immediate, impartial investigation to halt the daily, heavy-vehicle smuggling routes transporting illegally mined sand out of East Singhbhum.

Beyond the resource crisis, the BJP delegation raised serious national security and electoral concerns regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. Goswami expressed strong apprehensions that a significant number of Bangladeshi infiltrators are actively attempting to enroll their names on the local electoral rolls. The delegation urged the Deputy Commissioner to mandate extreme vigilance, transparency, and exhaustive background checks on all new voter applications to protect the integrity of the democratic process.
