BJP and Congress activists protest proposed demolition of houses by Jusco

Jamshedpur: Congress and BJP activists took to the streets at Shastrinagar, Kadma, on Sunday to protest proposed demolition of several houses in the locality to facilitate widening of the main road by Jusco.

Congress MLA Banna Gupta and former MLA and senior BJP leader Saryu Roy led their respective party activists during the agitation aimed at getting the proposed destruction drive revoked.

We will not allow Jusco to demolish the houses for widening of the road. The houses should not be touched as it would lead to displacement and damage to the residents. If the houses are demolished, we will not sit back quietly. Our party activists will launch a massive agitation against the move if the authorities concerned dare to go ahead with their plan, said Gupta.

Terming the proposed drive as deliberate and aimed at displacing the people from their rightful places, Saryu Roy said the administration should step in to stop the demolition drive. He said the drive threatened to render the people homeless or inflict monetary losses on them. He said living in the houses was the right of the residents and such right will not be allowed to be encroached by anyone.

Roy visited zone number 1, 2, 3 and 4 and met local residents. He assured to stand by the residents whose houses had been marked for the demolition drive by the Jusco officials. He said the roads should be widened, but not at the cost of convenience and rights of the people.

The MP of Jamshedpur, Vidyut Varan Mahato, too, visited the locality with district BJP president Nandjee Prasad and demanded revocation of the demolition drive. He said the BJP activists will agitate for the rights of the local residents.
