Jamshedpur: In a significant development aimed at restoring normalcy, the President of the Central Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Bhagwan Singh, has dissolved the existing committee of the Bistupur G Town Gurdwara with immediate effect. The decision follows the submission of a report by a five-member election committee constituted to conduct a fair election for the post of Gurdwara President.
Bhagwan Singh stated that prolonged disputes between two factions of the Gurdwara committee, which resulted in cases being filed against each other in court, were adversely affecting the smooth functioning of the Gurdwara Sahib. In view of the deteriorating situation, the committee was dissolved to maintain peace, discipline, and sanctity of the religious institution.
With the dissolution of the committee, the responsibility of managing the daily religious, administrative, and operational affairs of the Gurdwara Sahib has been handed over to a five-member committee until further notice. The committee will be chaired by Sardar Shailendra Singh, with Narendra Pal Singh, Amarjit Singh, Sukhwinder Singh Raju and Daljit Singh as members.
Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj of Sri Akal Takht Sahib had earlier entrusted Sardar Shailendra Singh with the responsibility of conducting elections at the Bistupur Gurdwara in the presence of a large congregation. Several attempts were made over an extended period to form a consensus committee through mutual agreement between the rival groups. However, with normalcy remaining elusive, the election committee submitted its recommendation report to the President of the Central Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee.
Clarifying the intent behind the decision, Bhagwan Singh said the arrangement is purely temporary. He assured that elections for the post of Gurdwara Committee President will be conducted at the earliest once the situation stabilises, in keeping with the sentiments of the sangat and Sikh traditions.
