Seraikela, Dec 3: Students of Birsa College in Khunti toured Seraikela and learned about its rich cultural heritage. On Saturday 28 students of MA from the Khunti college visited Seraikela on a project cum research tour.
The students, led by the head of department of the history section of Birsa College, Dr Abhishek Kumar, visited the ancient Jagannath temple, Panchmukhi shiv temple and learnt about Chhau mask making and the glorious tradition of Chhau.
The students said that as part of the project cum research tour they are trying to study Seraikela’s erstwhile rulers and collect evidence of its glorious past. The students studied Seraikela’s connection to the erstwhile Utkala Kingdom, Kharsawan firing and other important episodes from its pages of history.
Dr Kumar said that Seraikela is steeped in history and rich cultural heritage. “It is our duty to conserve its history and traditions,” he added. One of the students Sashi Bhusan sid that they have learnt about the ancient temples and their history.
While the first phase of the project cum research tour was focussed on Seraikela, in the second phase the students will visit Dumka and Deoghar and in the third phase they will tour Ramgarh, Hazaribag and delve into the history of the ancient Rajrappa temple.
