Jamshedpur, Nov 23: A routine traffic checking drive near the Telco Stadium in Jamshedpur spiralled into chaos on Sunday morning after a speeding car, stopped for not wearing a seat belt, crashed into a passing motorcycle. Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 9 am when traffic personnel were conducting a regular enforcement campaign. A white car approached at high speed and its driver was reportedly not wearing a seat belt. When the traffic team signalled him to stop, the driver braked abruptly and swerved left, ramming into a motorcyclist passing from the side.

The impact was so severe that the young rider was flung onto the road and sustained critical injuries. Within minutes, a crowd gathered at the spot, accusing the traffic team of negligence. Tension escalated when angry residents surrounded a traffic constable and held him for several minutes. The crowd raised slogans against the department, blaming the checking drive for the accident. Telco police arrived promptly and pacified the crowd, freeing the constable. The injured youth was rushed to the hospital, where doctors said his condition remains critical. Meanwhile, the car driver fled and police have launched a search. Locals have demanded safer protocols during checking drives to prevent such incidents. CCTV footage is being reviewed as part of the investigation.
