Seraikela, Nov 23: A tragic accident struck Palobeda village under Hudu Panchayat early Sunday around 4:45 am when an out-of-control Hyva truck loaded with stone chips overturned onto the house of 35-year-old Birbal Murmu. The family was asleep when the vehicle crashed through the structure, killing Birbal and his two-year-old daughter, Anushree, on the spot. His wife, Shefali Murmu, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Jamshedpur for treatment. Locals said the Hyva was part of a road construction project by Leading Construction from Haribhanga to Kalazhor and was reportedly speeding when it lost control. As police reached the site, villagers erupted in anger, demanding that a murder case be filed against the contractor and adequate compensation for the family. “We will not allow the bodies to be moved until action is taken,” residents warned, as the tense standoff continued while the administration attempted to pacify the crowd. Meanwhile, a written settlement has been reached regarding compensation for the tragic Palobeda accident in which Birbal Murmu and his daughter Anushree died. The vehicle belonged to Leading Construction, which is building a road in Hudu Panchayat. After negotiations involving the company management, administration officials and villagers—led by Panchayat Mukhiya Sugi Murmu and JMM central member Krishna Baske—an agreement was finalised. The company committed to paying Rs 25 lakh and rebuilding the family’s house. It also handed over Rs 50,000 for funeral rites and will provide another Rs 50,000 on Monday, with the remaining amount to be RTGS-transferred on 26 November. Officials including BDO Sadhu Charan Devgam and Kandra police in-charge Vinod Murmu were present.
