Bike-Borne Criminals Target Siblings in Jamshedpur Bag Snatching

Jamshedpur: A late-night snatching attempt turned violent in Sidhgora on Saturday after three bike-borne miscreants knocked down a brother and sister riding a scooter, leaving them injured before fleeing with a bag.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:40 PM near Litti Chowk, within the jurisdiction of the Sidhgora police station.

The victims, identified as Adityapur residents Sneha Kumari and her brother Satyam Kumar, sustained severe injuries in the assault. Paramedics rushed them to Tata Main Hospital (TMH), where both are currently undergoing treatment.

Local Residents Overpower One Miscreant

According to the victims’ father, Subodh Singh, the siblings were returning home after Sneha attended a friend’s birthday celebration. As they rode along the stretch between Litti Chowk and the residence of Odisha Governor (former Jharkhand Chief Minister) Raghubar Das, the three miscreants intercepted them.

The criminals rammed their motorcycle into the scooter to force a stop, causing both vehicles to skid violently across the road.

While the collision left the victims injured on the tarmac, two of the attackers quickly snatched Sneha’s bag and managed to flee the scene on foot. However, alert local residents rushed to the spot, cornered the third suspect before he could escape, and handed him over to the responding police team.

Rising Crime Rates Defy Police Overhaul

The Sidhgora police have launched an active investigation into the incident and have deployed teams to track down the two absconding suspects.

“We have taken one suspect into custody and are actively interrogating him to identify his accomplices,” a local police official confirmed.

The violent incident highlights a worrying trend, as snatching and petty crimes continue to plague Jamshedpur neighbourhoods despite recent leadership changes at the helm of the city’s police administration.
