Bihar Government grants state status to Dev’s Chhath Fair

Patna: The four-day Kartik Chhath fair at the mythological Saur Tirtha Dev has commenced, marking a significant religious event. Bihar’s Revenue and Land Reforms Minister, Alok Mehta, and Aurangabad MLA Anand Shankar Singh jointly inaugurated the fair on Friday. The event was presided over by District Magistrate Shrikant Shastri.

Minister Alok Mehta announced the grant of state fair status to Dev’s Kartik and Chaiti Chhath fair, fulfilling a promise made during the previous year’s Kartik fair. He highlighted the commitment to gradually enhance facilities in Dev after the formation of the Nagar Panchayat. Plans for city improvement and development will be devised, involving public representatives and common citizens.

The historical importance of Dev Surya Temple, which dates back around two and a half lakh years, was emphasized by DM Shrikant Shastri. This year, an estimated 10 lakh devotees are expected to participate in the fair. Adequate facilities, including accommodation, parking, and a temporary hospital with six beds, have been arranged over four lakh square feet. Future developments will focus on improving amenities for devotees.

Nagar Panchayat City President Pintu Kumar Shahil expressed the need for a meeting to prepare a master plan for the city’s betterment and enhance facilities for devotees. MLA Anand Shankar Singh raised concerns about the city’s condition, emphasizing the necessity to strengthen roads and improve toilet facilities.

Several dignitaries, including Superintendent of Police Swapna Meshram, former MLA Suresh Mehta, District Councilor President Pramila Kumari, and others, were present during the program. The vote of thanks was delivered by Sub-Divisional Officer Vijayant.
