Jamshedpur: Bhojpuri Sahitya Parishad organized a cultural programme based on the legendary creation of Kavi Guru and Nobel laureate Ravindranath Tagore at Tulsi Bhavan, Bistupur.
Noted poet of the city Rajendra Raj gave a Bhojpuri rendition of Gitanjali before an august audience on the occasion. He also presented the Bengali version of the world-famous poem.
Raj said he had translated the book into Bhojpuri in a bid to help Bhojpuri-speaking people know the work better and enjoy it in their mother-tongue. He said the book was expected to be released by the end of this year.
The programme was inaugurated by chief guest Dr Bachchan Pathak Salil, another noted Hindi littera- teur of the city. He praised the efforts of Rajendra Raj and said many more people will be able to read and enjoy the magnum opus of Ravindranath Tagore. He said the meaning of the poem could be understood in a better manner in one’s own mother tongue.
The welcome speech was given by Dr Narmadeshwar Pandey.
He spoke on the work of the Kavi Guru and the translated rendition of the same produced by Rajendra Raj. Many dignitaries were present during the programme.
