Jamshedpur, Jan 8: The nationwide strike called by various bank unions affected banking services in Jamshedpur along with whole of Kolhan on Wednesday. However, the bandh had little impact on normal life in the three districts.

Locks were seen on the gates of majority of banks including Bank of India, Central Bank of India, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Bank of Baroda, Andhra Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Federal Bank, UCO Bank, Bank of India and Punjab and Sindh Bank. The bank employees owing allegiance to various unions staged dharna before their respective branches throughout the day. Processions were taken out at few places in support of Bharat bandh. The employees threatened to intensify agitation in case their demands are not fulfilled soon.

Heera Araken, deputy general secretary of bank union, �We will launch massive stir in case the Centre continues with its adamant attitude towards our demands.�

Today�s bandh was supported by All India Bank Employees Association, Bank Employees Federation of India, Indian National Bank Employees Federation, All India Bank Officers Association and Indian National Bank Officers Confederation. National Confederation of Bank Employees and All India Bank Officers Confederation did not join the agitation, but lent moral support to it, sources said.
