Jamshedpur : With the start of the summer holidays, pools are witnessing a heavy rush. Swimming coaching camps are mushrooming and every swimming pool in the city has something to offer to enthusiasts.

The clubs in the city are flooded with swimmers these days. The swimming pool of G Town Club is abuzz with swimming activities, as in the last fortnight the strength of budding swimmers have increased manifold. Officials of the club informed that they are receiving frantic calls for admission.

“Nothing seems more close to ecstasy than a splash in the pool especially during the sweltering months of summer. This is my fourth year of swimming and I am enjoying every moment of it,” said Nilu Sinha, a student of Carmel Junior College and a member of club.

“The response has been excellent this summer. By the beginning of May, the rush has increased. In our club strokes like freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke are taught here under the watchful eyes of the coaches. Moreover the specially treated antiseptic water ensures that the swimmer’s complexion doesn’t get tanned,” said an in-charge of the club.

“Children need something constructive to do during the vacation. And there’s no better exercise than swimming. Swimming is also a life-saving skill. Everyone must learn it,” says Nikhil Srivastava, city-based swimming coach.
He went on to add that Jamshedpur has a greater number of swimming pools than any other city in the State. It also has one of the finest pool infrastructures in Jharkhand.

Parents too are taking interest in the swimming sessions. “My son has been coming here for the last two years. He has become an outstanding swimmer now,” says Aparna Bose, an excited mother as she watches her son wade through the water in perfect grace and style at G Town Club.

JRD Tata sports complex is also hosting a summer camp. It covers 12 sports disciplines — archery, athletics, basketball, boxing, handball, table tennis, volleyball, roller skating, badminton, cricket, golf and swimming.

“Every year over 200 children are trained at our pool. The summer camps serve a dual function: We teach basic swimming and also use this as a talent hunt, where promising children will be picked and promoted for competitive swimming,” said a coach at JRD Tata sports complex.

“I think even if you don’t know the strokes, just relax around in the water. Stretch right up while soaking in this summer time affair as there’s nothing like chill out with a cool splash,” said a member.

Similarly, United Club, which houses billiards table too, is receiving queries for pool sessions. The authorities informed that after ICSE and ISC results the rush has increased in the club.
