Banking ombudsman of Bihar and Jharkhand participates in awareness

Jamshedpur : Banking ombudsman of Bihar and Jharkhand participated in an awareness session organised by office of the banking ombudsman (Patna) in the city. Most of the complaints from Jharkhand were related to pension and ATM transactions.

The total complaints from Bihar-Jharkhand was 2700. More than 250 bank customers were present at Tube Maker�s Club hall.

Patric Barla said that directive has been given to all the regional managers of different banks operating in the state to put up display boards informing about address, phone number and e-mail of banking ombudsman along with designated nodal officers of different banks looking after consumer�s grievances in a proper manner so that public can see it. He also informed that all the banks have been asked to keep a copy of the Banking Ombudsman Scheme-2006 which would be given to consumers for their perusal.

Gyaneshwar Pathak, assistant general manager, Reserve Bank of India Patna said that the office of the banking ombudsman would organise more such programmes.

Customers of any bank in the State can approach the banking ombudsman for redressing their grievances and complaints against the bank. Under Banking Ombudsman Scheme 2006, the Reserve Bank of India has appointed an ombudsman with the primary objective of solving their grievances.

When banks introduce new products or schemes they have to reveal the various charges. She said that the banks have been asked to conduct awareness campaigns on financial literacy to educate customers on banking terms and procedures and to take banking to the masses. The complainants needn’t pay any fee to the ombudsman or the bank.

The banks have also been directed to appoint nodal officers for the financial ombudsman scheme.
