Jamshedpur : In a shocking case of crime, a 28-year-old girl was murdered and raped by unknown assailants.
Her body was recovered from a nallah in Baridih under Sidhgora Police station area on Sunday morning. The girl who was working as a clerk in Punjab National Bank’s Golmuri branch was first raped and then murdered.
A resident of Baridih in Sidhgora, the victim was missing from her house since 9 am on Saturday. Her body was found floating in a nallah near Vijaya Gardens, about one kilometre away from her house.
A local resident had spotted the body of the girl in the nallah and had informed the police immediately. A police party from Sidhgora Than recovered the body and sent it to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem. The police have made an inquest in which they mentioned it to be a case of rape and murder.
According to information, though the girl had gone missing since last morning, her family members had not lodged any missing report.
The body was identified after news about the girl spread in the locality after recovery of the body.
Officer-in-charge, Sidhgora Thana, RD Singh confirmed about the recovery of a girl’s body from a nallah in Baridih.
” We are investigating the gruesome incident. The girl who was missing from her house since Saturday morning was found lying murder. She was suspected to have been raped before the murder. There are marks of deep wounds,” said Singh.
The officer-in-charge said that the rape and murder victim had joined the banking service as clerk a month ago and was posted at the Punjab National Bank’s Golmuri branch. He said they are trying to find out exactly why did her family members did not lodge a missing report after her disappearance since Saturday morning.
The murder victim was the eldest in the three daughters and a son of a retired Tata Steel employee who resides at Baridih.
A relative of the murder victim said she had gone to fetch drinking water at about 9 am, but never returned.
” We are in state of shock and don�t know who are involved in the act. She was in her casual dress at home while she had gone to fetch water from a public tap.
As she did not return home, the family members thought she might have gone to some relative’s house in the neighbourhood. As she did not return till late in the evening, the anxious family members started searching for every relative’s house. But they just failed to inform the police,” said the relative.
Deputy superintendent of police (headquarters-I), K.N. Mishra visited the spot and also the house of the murder victim.
“Though we have picked up two youth for interrogation but we have to grill more people to dig out the mystery behind the murder,” said Mishra.
