Bandhu Tirkey accuses ED of harassing tribal CM and undermining elected government

Ranchi: Bandhu Tirkey, the Working President of the Congress, has strongly criticized the repeated summons sent by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to the tribal Chief Minister, stating that the tribal society fails to comprehend the ED’s actions. Tirkey asserted that the ED’s persistent summoning of the Chief Minister is tantamount to harassment, raising concerns about the government’s stability. He suggested that this approach is an attempt to destabilize the democratically elected government.

According to Tirkey, the tribal community views the ED’s actions as an affront to their elected leader and perceives it as an unwarranted challenge to the functioning of the government. He expressed the government’s resilience, stating that they are not afraid of such tactics. Tirkey highlighted the tribal identity of the Chief Minister and emphasized that the repeated summons could provoke strong resistance from the tribal society. He warned that if the ED’s attitude persists, the tribal community will vehemently voice its opposition against the investigative agency.

Responding to Tirkey’s remarks, JMM’s Central General Secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya clarified that Tirkey’s statement was personal. However, he acknowledged the prevailing public discontent, demanding transparency in the ED’s communication with the Chief Minister. Bhattacharya stressed the need for the ED’s letter to be made public and questioned how the information reached the media. He affirmed the party’s commitment to the law within the constitutional framework, expressing concern about the ED aligning with the BJP’s narrative. The JMM asserted that they do not oppose any investigative agency but raised concerns about the seriousness of the situation and the source of certain narratives.
