Baha’i temple in Chile marks 10th anniversary; Indian envoy joins celebrations

The Baha’i House of Worship in Penalolen, Santiago, marked its 10th anniversary with a series of spiritual and cultural programs celebrating a decade of fostering peace, inclusivity, and shared humanity.
Nestled against the foothills of the Andes, the luminous glass and marble landmark served as the venue for devotional gatherings, serene choral performances, and community events featuring local youth orchestras.
Indian Ambassador to Chile Abhilasha Joshi attended the celebrations, honoring the temple’s role as an open sanctuary for prayer, reflection, and unity. The Indian Embassy in Chile highlighted the event on social media, noting that the anniversary was more than a celebration of an iconic architectural structure. Reflections were also shared by the temple’s architect, Siamak Hariri, emphasizing its position as a gathering place belonging to all people, regardless of background or belief.
The milestone follows recent efforts to strengthen cultural and diplomatic ties between India and Chile. Last month, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta addressed members of the Indian diaspora in Santiago during an event hosted by Ambassador Joshi at the Embassy Residence. Speaking to the community, Gupta underscored the deep connections between the two nations, bound by democratic values, rich civilisational heritage, and mutual trust.
Gupta noted that while India and Chile are geographically distant, the true strength of their bilateral relations lies in people-to-people connections, warmth, and shared human spirit rather than government agreements alone. Appreciating the Indian diaspora’s contributions, he highlighted that every citizen abroad serves as a cultural ambassador, giving depth, warmth, and permanence to international relations while reflecting India’s expanding global presence.
