Auto fare to be fixed on basis of distance

Jamshedpur: Decision on bus and auto fare in the light of cut in fuel prices would be decided soon.

Though unanimity could not be reached at the meeting held today on behalf of the district administration it was said that auto fares might be fixed on the basis of distance travelled.

Today a meeting on the issue was held under the chairmanship of secretary of Regional Transportation Authority Aniruddh Prasad. Senior officials including district transport officer, Sanjay Kujur, MVI, Awdhesh Kumar, transport officer of Seraikela-Khasawan, Nilam Lata and transport officer of Chaibasa Navin Kumar attended the meeting.

Prasad said that the meeting had elaborated on present traffic system, tempo and bus stands, number of passengers, existing routes and fares.

He said that administration would curb unilateral fixing of fares and would support the demand of fixing of fares on the basis of distance travelled.

The next meeting would decide on the modalities of fixing auto and bus fares, he added.
