Jamshedpur, Oct 13: A shocking case of ATM fraud has surfaced in Mango’s Zakir Nagar area, where two customers reportedly lost large sums of money after their ATM cards got stuck in a Canara Bank machine.
Both victims have lodged written complaints with the bank, demanding a thorough investigation and immediate refund of the withdrawn amounts.
The first incident occurred on the evening of October 12, when Mohammad Amir Ansari visited the Canara Bank ATM to withdraw cash.
During the transaction, his card got stuck in the machine. Moments later, he received messages indicating unauthorized withdrawals totaling Rs 17,000 from his account.
He immediately lodged a complaint with the bank.
A similar incident took place around 6:30 PM the same evening, when another customer, Arif Iqbal, faced the same issue.
His card too got stuck in the ATM, and shortly after, Rs 2.17 lakh was withdrawn fraudulently from his account.
He submitted a written application to the branch manager seeking a serious probe and reimbursement.
The bank management confirmed receipt of both complaints, stating that the CCTV footage and transaction logs are being examined.
Officials assured that appropriate action will be taken once the inquiry is completed.
The incidents have sparked outrage among local residents, who questioned the security and maintenance standards of the ATM.
They demanded stricter monitoring, regular CCTV checks, and the deployment of security personnel to prevent such frauds in the future.
