Jamshedpur, Feb 26: Seraikela-Kharsawan police here launched a search for the Ichagarh MLA and BJP leader Sadhucharan Mahato and his supporters in connection with an alleged assault on the district land acquisition officer Deepu Kumar on 22nd February last.
Sources said the police had obtained an arrest warrant against the MLA accused of manhandling Deepu Kumar at a public function organized to distribute compensation amounts among the villagers of Seraikela.
A team of Adityapur police station conducted raids at several places across the district. It went to the MLA’s residence in Sridungri, but failed to get him.
Sources said the MLA had gone traceless after the arrest warrant was issued in his name.
Meanwhile, the four day ultimatum given by the members of Jharkhand Administrative Services Association (JASA) to the Seraikela-Kharsawan district administration to arrest the accused legislator expired today.
Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Chandan Kumar Sinha said raids were on to arrest Sadhucharan Mahato following the issuance of arrest warrant against him. He said the MLA was absconding.
