Dumka: In a significant development, the Saraiyahat police station has apprehended Som Marandi, also known as Somlal Marandi, from Barhet village in connection with a POCSO Act case. The accused has been arrested and subsequently sent to jail.
According to available information, the accused had allegedly enticed a 14-year-old girl from the same village to Bahiyar under the pretext of showing her his mobile phone. Subsequently, he is accused of raping and murdering her, later disposing of her body in the bushes.
The incident dates back to February 2020, and an FIR was registered at the Saraiyahat police station under case number 14/20, invoking sections 376 and 302 of the Indian Penal Code, along with sections 4, 6, and 8 of the POCSO Act. Somlal was identified as a prime suspect in the case and had been evading the police for an extended period until his recent arrest.
