Jamshedpur, July 15: A Tata Steel-allotted residential quarter on Kulsi Road in Sakchi was allegedly vandalised by armed miscreants, with the occupant accusing them of criminal intimidation and seeking police protection from the East Singhbhum Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

In a written complaint, Chandan Kumar alleged that unidentified persons forcibly entered his allotted quarter after breaking open the lock, vandalised the property and threatened him with dire consequences. He has urged the SSP to order a fair investigation, initiate strict legal action against those responsible and ensure the safety of his family.

According to the complaint, Kumar had been legally allotted the Tata Steel quarter by the company’s Estate Department. He alleged that a few days ago, a man identified as Sibu visited the premises and claimed that the quarter was disputed, warning him to vacate it immediately or face serious consequences.

Following the threat, Kumar said he approached Tata Steel’s Estate Department, where officials reportedly confirmed that the quarter had been validly allotted to him and that there was no dispute over its ownership or allotment. Acting on this assurance, he began renovation and repair work at the property.

Kumar further alleged that on Wednesday morning, a group of anti-social elements arrived at the house while no family members were present. They allegedly broke open the lock, entered the premises and extensively damaged household property. The complaint states that the assailants were armed with sharp-edged weapons, including choppers and attempted to create panic in the neighbourhood.

The complainant said the incident could have turned far more serious had his family been inside the house at the time. Fearing another attack, he has requested immediate police protection.

Police have acknowledged receipt of the complaint. No official statement had been issued till the filing of this report, though officials said appropriate action would be taken after verifying the facts during the investigation.
