Ranchi: BJP state spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo took a dig at the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) ahead of its upcoming 13th party convention scheduled for April 14-15. He criticized the reported move to amend the party’s constitution, challenging JMM to implement the principle of “one person, one post” if it truly believes in democratic values.
Shahdeo alleged that the JMM would never gather the courage to implement such a change, as it would directly impact Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who currently also holds the position of Executive President of the party. “Hemant Soren will never want to loosen his grip over the party, which is why any meaningful constitutional reform in JMM is unlikely,” he stated. According to him, such a reform is essential for internal party democracy.
Complete control of the party by one family
The BJP leader accused the Soren family of having complete control over the party, stating that more than half a dozen members of the family hold positions as MPs, MLAs, or office-bearers within the party. He criticized JMM for failing to uphold the rights of backward classes and Scheduled Castes, despite claiming to represent them.
Shahdeo further said it is high time that the Executive President’s post be given to someone from the SC or OBC community. “Hemant Soren should show a large heart and hand over the executive president role to a deserving leader from these communities,” he added.
Unlike BJP, JMM’s leadership is predictable
Drawing comparisons with the BJP, Shahdeo pointed out that “no one can predict who the next national president of BJP will be,” which he said is a testament to BJP’s commitment to democratic practices. “But in JMM, it’s certain the next president or executive president will come from the Soren family,” he remarked.
He accused JMM of making a mockery of its organizational elections, claiming they were nothing more than an eyewash. “Every directive from the Kanke Road headquarters is blindly followed, from district down to block committees. The entire process is just a farce,” he said, asserting that the party has misled the public about its internal democratic processes.
