NIT Jamshedpur Hosts Workshop on Advancements in Flow and Acoustic Control
Jamshedpur: The Mechanical Engineering Department of NIT Jamshedpur hosted five-day workshop titled “Taming Turbulence: Advancements in Flow and Acoustic Control.” Sponsored by the Jharkhand Council on Science, Technology, and Innovation, the workshop aimed to deepen engineering students’ understanding of modern techniques in managing fluid dynamics and acoustic behavior.
The event featured expert-led lectures by faculty members from IITs and NITs, as well as practical demonstrations. Participants were introduced to cutting-edge methods in turbulence control, flow optimization, and acoustic noise reduction. Topics covered included advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models, active and passive flow control techniques, and the application of innovative materials to reduce noise and vibrations in various systems.
The workshop emphasized the transformative potential of these advancements across industries such as aerospace, automotive, and energy production. Students explored how these techniques can enhance performance, efficiency, and sustainability while reducing the environmental impacts of noise and turbulence.

Prof. Goutam Sutradhar, Director of NIT Jamshedpur, encouraged students to apply their newfound knowledge to address real-world challenges in fluid dynamics and acoustic control. Prof. Sanjay, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, commended the organizing faculty—Dr. Shailesh Jha, Dr. Rinku Gouda, Dr. A.K. Patel, and Dr. K.S.K. Sudhamshu—for the success of the event.
Dean of Research Prof. M.K. Sinha lauded the active participation and dedication of students, while Deputy Director Prof. R.V. Sharma praised the organizers and urged them to host similar workshops regularly.
