Leadership reshuffle at Tata Motors brings experienced executive back to mother plant

Jamshedpur, Feb 4: Tata Motors has appointed Anurag Chharia as the new head of its Jamshedpur plant. He will assume charge on February 9 (Monday). The current plant head, Sunil Tiwari, has been transferred to the Pune plant as part of the organisational changes.
Anurag Chharia brings over 33 years of rich experience with Tata Motors. Until now, he was serving as the Head of the Defence Business in Pune, a role he held since June 2020. His return to Jamshedpur is being seen as both technically and strategically important for the company.
Chharia began his professional journey at the Jamshedpur plant in 1992 as a Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET). After completing his initial training between 1992 and 1994, he worked at the mother plant before moving to Tata Motors’ Lucknow facility. There, he played a key role in the development and operations of the Lucknow plant, holding several important positions over the years. He continued his tenure in Lucknow until June 2020, when he was shifted to Pune.
Outgoing plant head Sunil Tiwari had taken charge of the Jamshedpur plant on October 15, 2024. He will now be responsible for overseeing operations at the Pune plant.
Industry insiders believe that Chharia’s deep understanding of manufacturing operations and his long association with Tata Motors will help strengthen the performance of the Jamshedpur plant. His appointment is expected to bring fresh momentum to one of the company’s most important production hubs.
