Fate of 24 Jamshedpur Buildings Now in Supreme Court; Hearing on March 9

Jamshedpur: The administrative bulldozer campaign against unauthorized constructions and map deviations in the city has come to a standstill following appeals filed in the Supreme Court. On Tuesday, the apex court stayed the demolition process. All eyes are now fixed on March 9, the date scheduled for the next hearing.

The Jharkhand High Court had previously ordered the demolition of deviated portions of 24 buildings across the city. However, the Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta has now ordered the maintenance of the status quo on several properties, including:

  • TK (India) Real Estate Pvt Ltd in Bistupur
  • S. Kameshwar’s property in Sonari (Kagal Nagar)
  • Purabi Banerjee’s building in Sakchi (New Baradwari)

The March 9 hearing is considered pivotal as it will also include petitions from Tausif Ali, Rajesh Chaudhary, and Jawahar Vig, all of whom received stay orders from the Supreme Court just a day prior.

Court Demands Response Within Four Weeks

While hearing Special Leave Petition (SLP) No. 4741/2026, the apex court issued notices to the Jharkhand Government, the district administration, and the original complainant, Rakesh Jha. All respondents have been directed to file their affidavits within four weeks.

Commenting on the development, JNAC Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar stated that the administration is consulting its legal team after receiving copies of the stay orders. He clarified that further action on the remaining buildings will strictly follow the directives issued by the court.
