Anti-Romeo squad swings into action in Jubilee park

Jamshedpur, March 29: Taking a cue from Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand has launched its own anti-Romeo squads, the squad has become active in Jamshedpur with police pouncing on young men found loitering around schools, colleges and Parks without any reason.

The squad launched a special drive in Jubilee Park in the evening and nabbed several youths found indulging in obscene activities. The Sakchi Mahila Thana incharge Seema Kumar led the drive where police officers caught hold of �roadside Romeos�, a common phrase in India for men who commit acts of street harassment. Lady constables took a round of the park and caught several couples indulging in obscene activities.

During the drive in Jubilee Park on Wednesday, police rounded up some young men and also slapped them. Some youths fled the scene while those who were caught were demanded ID cards by the lady constables and were let off.

Police was present in white dress cracked down on the youths who were seen flirting were strictly dealt with. Police resorted to lathi charge and let off with warning. An official said that the police have launched a drive to the check the menace. As of reports no one was arrested and were let off by the police with a warning.

The girls have been told to inform about any such incident on Shakti App or dial 100. Police will swing into action within minutes of getting information. It may be noted that taking a cue from Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand launched its own anti-Romeo squads.
