Ancient Idol of Lord Vishnu Unearthed During Plowing in Sonikpur Village, Gopalganj District

Gopalganj: In a remarkable discovery, a statue of Lord Vishnu emerged from the fields during plowing in Sonikpur village, located in the Gopalpur police station area of Gopalganj district. The news of the unearthed idol has attracted people from far and wide, with devotees and saints converging to witness the divine finding.

On Friday, a group of saints from various monasteries in the region arrived to pay homage to the idol. The ritualistic worship commenced with a ceremonial bathing of the idol, followed by an offering of milk, flowers, fruits, and other sacred items. The idol, believed to be that of Adi Narayan, incorporates representations of all 24 incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

Mahant Padam Das Jimaharaj, leading the assembly of saints, emphasized the significance of the idol, expressing that it embodies the essence of Lord Vishnu’s various incarnations. The occasion saw the participation of hundreds of devotees, both male and female, who joined in the puja.

The discovery unfolded during routine plowing on Thursday when an ancient idol of Lord Vishnu was unearthed, drawing the attention of nearby villagers. Administrative officials promptly conducted an investigation at the site. The idol depicts Lord Vishnu holding a conch, chakra, mace, and flowers, with small depictions of other deities on three sides.

In response to the surge of faith among villagers, preparations for constructing a temple are underway. The community, displaying remarkable unity, swiftly constructed a 500-meter road connecting the chosen temple site to the main road passing through Kogaon, utilizing tractor-trolleys and personal labor. Villagers are actively engaged in collecting donations for the upcoming temple construction.

This isn’t the first time such a discovery has been made in Sonikpur. Three years ago, an idol of Hanuman Ji was uncovered during plowing, followed by the discovery of an idol of Radha Krishna two years later. Despite lesser activity during those instances, the unearthing of the Lord Vishnu idol has prompted speculation about the existence of an ancient temple beneath the fields, supported by the discovery of bricks believed to be remnants of the historic structure. Construction of the temple is anticipated to commence soon, marking a significant spiritual milestone for the villagers.
