Amrit Bharat train to be launched in January 2025 for middle and lower income groups: Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar

Jamshedpur, September 15: The Indian Railways is set to introduce the Amrit Bharat train in January 2025, aimed at catering to the middle and lower-income groups. The new service will feature general and sleeper coaches to ensure affordability for passengers, while maintaining facilities similar to the premium Vande Bharat Express. This announcement was made by Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar during the inauguration of the Vande Bharat Express at Tatanagar Railway Station on Sunday.

Satish Kumar highlighted the railway’s commitment to serving all classes, from the general public to the executive class. “The fare of the Amrit Bharat will be lower than that of the Vande Bharat, but the amenities will remain comparable,” he stated.

Expansion of Vande Bharat Express and introduction of sleeper coaches

The railways is continuing its efforts to expand the Vande Bharat Express network. Currently, 110 Vande Bharat trains operate across India, and with the addition of 11 new trains, this number will soon rise to 121. Kumar also informed that sleeper coaches would be introduced in the Vande Bharat service in the near future, with one sleeper rack already completed and six others under construction as part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Plans for Bullet Trains and Metro Service

In addition to expanding Vande Bharat services, the Indian Railways is exploring the introduction of Bullet trains and conducting surveys to assess the feasibility of launching Vande Bharat Metro services in various cities. This metro service is designed to address the increasing population and urban traffic. Gujarat is set to be the first state to benefit from this initiative, with other cities to follow. The infrastructure for metro trains and stations will differ significantly from conventional railway stations, offering a more streamlined and efficient experience for urban commuters.
