PM Modi in Jamshedpur: Modi lashes out at JMM and Congress, calls them “Masters of Corruption”

Jamshedpur, September 15: In a fiery speech delivered in Jamshedpur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress, accusing both parties of deep-rooted corruption.

Addressing a large crowd at Gopal Maidan, Modi labelled Congress as the “most corrupt family and party” in the country, and accused JMM of following in its footsteps. “All streams of corruption originate from Congress, and JMM has taken lessons from the Congress School of Corruption,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister alleged that JMM has done nothing for Jharkhand over the past five years except “looting” the state, including encroaching on land meant for the army. “The only work JMM has done in these years is robbing the state, and they have even gone as far as looting army land,” he stated. Modi also took aim at the Congress party, accusing it of plundering both the national treasury and Jharkhand’s resources during their rule.

BJP’s Push to Reclaim Kolhan Region

The Prime Minister’s visit to Jamshedpur comes as the BJP attempts to regain ground in the Kolhan region, which has 14 assembly seats, including nine reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, one for Scheduled Caste (SC), and four general seats. In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP failed to win a single seat in Kolhan, a region dominated by JMM and Congress. Modi’s address was a crucial part of the BJP’s strategy to bounce back in this key area ahead of the upcoming state elections.

JMM’s Champai Soren, widely referred to as the “Kolhan Tiger,” holds significant influence in the region, making it a battleground for both parties. Modi’s remarks targeting Soren and his party signal the BJP’s intent to challenge the stronghold that JMM and Congress have built in Kolhan.

In his speech, Modi pointed out that JMM had promised unemployment allowances during the 2019 state elections but failed to deliver. “Did any of the jobless youths receive unemployment allowance as promised by the JMM?” the Prime Minister questioned. He compared the party’s tactics to those of the Congress, which had once promised cash transfers to women as part of their election manifesto. “JMM is trying to grab power just like Congress, by making empty promises,” Modi stated, specifically referencing JMM’s recent announcement of the Maiya Sanmaan Yojna, a scheme targeting women voters.

Warning to Tribals and Downtrodden

Modi particularly addressed the tribal and marginalized communities, urging them not to fall for the JMM’s promises. “The JMM is trying to lure voters with lies and false hopes,” he said, imploring the people to defeat the party in the upcoming assembly elections. He accused the Soren family, which leads the JMM, of being more concerned with power than with the welfare of Jharkhand’s tribals. “Like the power-hungry Gandhi family, the Soren family is also power-greedy. They have no interest in tribal development,” Modi charged.

Citing the example of Champai Soren, a tribal leader who was replaced as chief minister when Hemant Soren was released on bail, Modi said that this was evidence of the Soren family’s disregard for the welfare of their community. “If the Soren family really cared about tribals, this would not have happened,” Modi remarked.

Delayed rally amidst heavy rains

Modi’s rally, initially delayed by two hours due to bad weather, was greeted by a massive crowd that braved the incessant rain. Despite the adverse conditions, people from various parts of the Kolhan region gathered at Gopal Maidan to hear the Prime Minister speak. Due to poor weather, Modi had to travel by road from Ranchi instead of by air.

The Prime Minister concluded his address with a call to action, urging the people to reject JMM’s governance in the upcoming elections and to place their faith in the BJP for the state’s future development.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Jamshedpur comes at a crucial time as the state of Jharkhand prepares for its assembly elections. The BJP has been aggressively campaigning to unseat the JMM-led government, focusing on issues of corruption, unemployment, and stalled development in the mineral-rich state.
