Jamshedpur, Nov 13: Tensions flared in Jugsalai during the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly Elections as workers from AJSU and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) clashed early in the morning. The clash occurred in the Jugsalai assembly seat, which is reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC).
In another incident, workers from AJSU and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha clashed at Kerala Public School in Burma Mines, a polling booth in the Jugsalai constituency. AJSU district vice president Kamlesh Dubey accused JMM workers of repeatedly visiting the polling booth, which he claimed was disrupting the election process. In contrast, JMM leader Badal stated that he had only visited to provide breakfast and water to the workers. The situation was brought under control when the Burma Mines police officer arrived at the scene, spoke to both party leaders, and diffused the tension.
Irregular voter-list compilation creates chaos
In addition to the scuffle, a large number of voters were left frustrated as their names were missing from the voter list at polling booths. Voters in the Jugsalai Nagar Parishad area faced significant difficulties due to the non-distribution of voter slips. Many voters reported that the Booth Level Officer (BLO) did not distribute the voter list door-to-door, unlike in previous years. This oversight led to confusion, with large crowds gathering at polling stations like St. John School, Jagatbandhu Seva Sadan Library, and Ram Janaki Kanya Madhya Vidyalaya, searching for their names instead of voting. The delay in finding names caused frustration, and the long queues added to the pressure on the election process.
