Anurag Foundation Marks World Thalassemia Day with Focus on Finding the ‘Undiagnosed’

Jamshedpur: Continuing its 24-year mission to support children with blood disorders, the Anurag Foundation organized a major awareness and community support program at Dayanand Public School on May 9. Aligning with the 2026 global theme, “Hidden No More – Finding the Undiagnosed, Supporting the Unseen,” the event aimed to sharpen public focus on early detection and inclusive care.

A Call for Collective Awareness

The program opened with a welcome address by Foundation President Vijayalakshmi Das, who emphasized that thalassemia, as a genetic disorder, can only be eradicated through societal participation. She lauded the donors and supporters who have allowed the foundation to provide medical assistance, blood support, and counseling since 2002.

Distinguished medical professionals and supporters attended the event, including Dr. Vinita Singh, Dr. Arvind Arya, Atul Bhatnagar, Kapil Modi, and Swastika Basu. Long-time patrons Dr. N. K. Das and Dr. Mandar Shah were also present, reaffirming their ongoing commitment to providing clinical guidance to affected children.

Artistic Advocacy: ‘Ankahi Dastaan’

The emotional centerpiece of the evening was a dance drama titled “Ankahi Dastaan – Every Story Deserves Recognition, Every Life Deserves Dignity.” Performed by the students of Step School and conceived by Sukanya Das, the presentation used music and theater to portray the daily struggles and resilience of thalassemia patients. The performance served as a poignant reminder of the need for compassion and social inclusion.

Honouring a Legacy of Service

In recognition of decades of selfless contribution, the foundation conferred the “Lifetime Achievement Honour” upon Behram D. Bodhanwala. Anurag Foundation stressed that increased community support is vital to ensure that no child remains undiagnosed or deprived of essential life-saving treatment.
