Jamshedpur: All Jharkhand Students Union(AJSU) activists today took to the streets in the city against the dilapidated power supply scenario in the various localities.
Leading the protestors during a procession through city streets, Babur Khan, the district president of the party, alleged that the apathy of the electricity department officials had led to the poor situation of electricity supply in the city.
He said in many localities, power supply was not available for more than six to eight hours a day. As a result, the residents of many localities are seriously devoid of opportunities to study, do their household chores and other things on a daily basis, said Khan.
The AJSU leaders had earlier announced to gherao the electricity office in a bid to put pressure on the department authorities concerned so that they may improve the power supply in Mango and other areas. They met the general manager of JSEB at the conclusion of the procession and handed over a memorandum to him demanding continuous power supply to Mango and other city areas.
The various demands raised by the AJSU activists include completion of work on the proposed 132 KV Grid in Mango, replacing the 50 MVA transformer in Gamharia Grid to avoid further electricity crisis. There may be certain impediments in carrying out the project but the proposal should not be thrown on the backburner, said a party activist.
Other demands raised by the party activists include installation of a 10 MVA transformer in Mango Kunwar Busti Sub Station, construction of a power sub centre in Baliguma and separation of the electricity supply for Kali Mandir Sub Station and Kapali Sub Station.
The protestors further alleged that the assistant engineer of Chandil often turned a deaf ear to their complaints and hence he should not be sent on duty in the area.
