Jamshedpur: All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) president Satnam Singh Gambhir on Friday demanded that the state government should pass a resolution in the Assembly to declare the 1984 anti-Sikh riots as genocide.
In a statement issued today, Gambhir hailed the Ontarios Provincial Legislative Assembly in Canada for standing with the Sikh community by terming the 1984 killings as genocidal violence.
After 1984 genocidal violence, thousands of families fled to Canada to save their lives and today genocide recognition is a step towards justice and accountability. On the other hand, several hundred thousand Sikhs who were forced to move back to Jharkhand are still suffering from the wounds of violence because jharkhand Government has not taken any steps for justice and recognition of the 1984 violence as genocide”.
“We demand that the state government led by CM Raghuvar Das should pass 1984 Sikh Genocide Resolution in the Jharkhand Assembly to show solidarity with the victims of genocidal violence,” said Gambhir.
