Agriculture department to stress on seasonal farming: Banna Gupta

Jamshedpur: State agriculture minister Banna Gupta today held a meeting with the director of agriculture department Krishna Dev Prasad Gupta and the director of housing department and inquired about the progress of various projects and schemes.

The minister said all important decisions regarding various schemes and projects of his department would be taken before 15th October. The directors of the agriculture and housing departments have been asked to provide updated report on the pending projects and progress of other ongoing projects.

Gupta said the total budget of the agriculture department was Rs 806 crore, but only two per cent of the total budget amount could be spent by the department.

Decisions are yet to be taken on the implementation of various schemes related to godowns, cold storage, storage of foodgrains, seeds and fertilizers, he said. He said the department officials were working day and night to implement various pending projects.

Gupta further said the state agriculture department would be promoting seasonal farming in Jharkhand in order to increase productivity and yield.

�Efforts will be made to give adequate information to farmers on seasonal farming and methods to ensure high yield with minimum water input. Seeds and fertilizers will also be provided to farmers on time. Technical training would be imparted to them from time to time to provide them maximum benefit,� said Gupta.

Gupta said the agriculture department would be making attempts to prevent agricultural land from becoming sterile. He said the farmers would be provided every possible help to ensure maximum utilization of agricultural land.
