Workshop on corrosion and wear-resistant coating for MSMEs held at CSIR-NML
Jamshedpur, Nov 12: The CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur, under the Centre of Excellence (CoE) funded by the Department of Science & Technology, organized a Workshop-cum-Training Programme for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and allied industries on the theme “Corrosion and Wear Resistant Coating Technology.”
The programme aimed to enhance awareness, technical knowledge, and skills in surface engineering and protective coating technologies. Over 35 participants from leading industrial organizations, including Emdet Jamshedpur Pvt. Ltd., Valour Wires Pvt. Ltd., Accropoly Metal Pvt. Ltd., Tata BlueScope, Tata Motors, and others, attended the session.
In his welcome address on behalf of Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR-NML, Dr. S. Sivaprasad, Senior Chief Scientist and Head (MTE), emphasized the crucial role of advanced coating technologies in improving durability and sustainability of industrial components. He highlighted the need for stronger industry–research collaboration for technology transfer and capacity building.
Dr. Raghuvir Singh, Head of the Advanced Materials and Corrosion Division and Programme Coordinator, outlined the objectives of the CoE on Wear and Corrosion Resistant Coating Technology, which focuses on addressing MSME challenges through scientific interventions.
Dr. Shailendra K. Jha, Convener of the workshop, delivered the vote of thanks and spoke on “The Role of Surface Finishing Operations and Electroplating in Industry,” offering practical tips on troubleshooting and quality enhancement.
Participants gained hands-on experience in electroplating, HVOF, hot-dip coating, corrosion analysis, and paint applications, appreciating CSIR-NML’s continued support through training, knowledge sharing, and technical consultancy.
