Adityapur municipal corporation polls: 14 candidates in fray for the post of mayor

Jamshedpur, March 27 : The fight for the post of mayor in Adityapur Municipal Corporation has become interesting as all 14 candidates who had filed nominations did not with draw their candidature.

With no did withdraw nominations, the municipal corporation elections in Adityapur in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district has become interesting as the BJP’s official candidate Vinod Srivastava will face challenge from two of the candidates having saffron background are also in the fray.

Director of ITDA, Arun Walter Sanga, who is the Returning Officer for the election of mayor in Adityapur Municipal Corporation said that today was the last day withdrawing nomination but none of the 14 candidates who had filed nominations for the post of mayor did withdraw from the nominations,” said Sanga.

The two BJP rebels who are in the battle are Ganga Prasad Sharma (71) and RadhaSandil. While Sharma is a devoted saffron activist for the past four decades apart from being an entreprenuer, Sandil is the erstwhile chairperson of Adityapur municipal council.

” I have been ignored in the party and have been feeling neglected. BJP state president LaxmanGiluawas in Adityapur on Monday. But neither did Gilua turn up nor did he send any representative to me. I was even waiting till the last minute for the nomination withdrawal deadline at 3 pm, but Gilua did not contact me even over phone. I would have definitely considered my candidature had some one contacted me,” said Sharma.

Sandiltoo said that she was not approached by Gilua who was in Aditaypur on Monday for withdrawing the nomination. “I would not have withdrawn the nomination even Gilua would have requested me. I will contest the elections for the post of mayor and the people will definitely make me victory,” said former Adityapur municipal council chairperson.

With a population of over 2.5 lakh, Adityapur municipal council is comprised of 32 wards. The total number of voters in the area is 1,03,055 who will be casting their votes for the civic poll scheduled to be held on April 16.

The returning officer for the mayor elections will distribute elections symbols to the candidates tomorrow. The major candidates who are in the fray Vinod Srivastava from the BJP, Independent candidate Ganga Prasad Sharma, Yogendra Sharma from the Congress and Ranjit Pradhan from the JMM.

The process of Adityapur municipal corporation polls for a five-year-term has started. Nomination filing started from March 16. The last date for withdrawing the nomination was March 27. The polling will be held on April 16.
