Action against sale of adulterated liquor in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, October 9: The business of adulteration of liquor for illegal earning is going on rapidly in Jamshedpur.

In licensed liquor shops, expensive liquor is being sold in bottles mixed with water. After the pictures of adulteration went viral, the excise department swung into action. Taking cognizance of the complaint, the departmental team raided the liquor shop located in Vidyapatinagar in Sidhgora on Saturday night.

Nine litres of water and liquor bottles were seized. Two employees involved in adulteration were caught and brought to the excise police station. The team of Excise Department included Assistant Commissioner Rakesh Singh and Manoj Kumar. Both the arrested employees are being interrogated.

In the investigation so far, it has been revealed that the employees take out the liquor by opening the lid of the sealed liquor bottle. Then water is added to the liquor in the same proportion. The extracted liquor is filled in new bottles and sold to the customers at the rate of MRP.

Cases have come to light earlier also: Recently, a video of a liquor shop employee mixing water in Adityapur had gone viral. The department was continuously receiving complaints about water being mixed with liquor in bottles.

According to the excise department, so far 12 employees have been arrested for irregularities.

The in-charge and his colleagues embezzled Rs 6.50 lakh. After the raid, the transactions in the shop were investigated. Misappropriation worth lakhs of rupees has been detected in this. In-charge and employees in collusion have committed financial embezzlement of Rs 6.50 lakh. It is being verified.
