ACB arrests Seraikela clerk for accepting ₹8000 bribe

Seraikela, June 27: Swagata Nanda, a head clerk at the Land Reforms Sub-Collector Office in Seraikela, was caught red-handed by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of ₹8000. The bribe was demanded from applicant Singh Soy, a resident of Swarnpur, to forward a file.

The ACB team conducted the raid on Thursday afternoon, arresting Swagata Nanda as she accepted the money. The incident caused a commotion in the office, and news of the arrest quickly spread throughout the district. The ACB team then took the accused clerk to Jamshedpur. An FIR was lodged against Swagata Nanda under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 2018, and she will soon be sent to jail.

Case Details: Singh Soy had filed a written complaint with the Superintendent of Police, ACB, Jamshedpur, stating that he had purchased 49 decimals of land in Mauja Ukri, Seraikela. His mutation case had been rejected by the Circle Officer, and he subsequently filed an appeal with the Land Reforms Sub-Collector. Swagata Nanda demanded ₹8000 to move the file forward.

Troubled by the persistent demand for money, Singh Soy reported the issue to the ACB, which verified the complaint. Following verification, the ACB team laid a trap and arrested Swagata Nanda as she accepted the bribe from Singh Soy.

“A bribe of eight thousand rupees was being demanded from the plaintiff by clerk Swagata Nanda for advancing the mutation file. After the complaint of plaintiff Singh Soy, the ACB came into action and the clerk was arrested red-handed while taking the bribe. The clerk will be sent to jail soon,” said Sunil Chaudhary, DSP ACB.
