Jamshedpur, June 15: Congress national Spokesperson and former MP Dr Ajoy Kumar observed, “The abnormal increase in holding tax and rent on shops at the sairat markets by the Jharkhand government is the fallout of a wrong decision and it should reconsider the decision as the state citizens would otherwise be made to pay through their nose,” while talking to the media at the local Circuit House on Wednesday.
Dr Ajoy Kumar said that he would soon meet people on the issue and would also discuss with shopkeepers of Sakchi and Mango Bazaars. The opinions thus collected would be conveyed to the state government.
The Congress National Spokesperson stated, “The increase in holding tax and a 10 fold increase in tax in Sakchi markets will definitely dent pockets that are already seeking space for survival because of the COVID-19 phases when many shops were closed or had slack business. Efforts would definitely be made towards withdrawal of the enhanced rates upto 1,400 percent in lieu of tax in schools.”
Taking up the issue of power crisis, Dr Ajoy averred, “The acute power supply crunch is due to the state government’s dues to the DVC that amount to Rs 2,200 crore for which the common people are being made to suffer. It is only the state government that can create a situation of regular power supply by paying the DVC dues.”
He attributed the ED’s action on Rahul Gandhi as an act to divert people’s attention from the Nupur Sharma case. “Around 5,400 cases have been registered by the ED across the country, among which many are also against BJP leaders, but only opposition leaders are being harassed and that too, in a selective manner.”
Congress leaders Dharmendra Sonkar, Bablu Jha, Sanjeev Srivastava, Rahul Goswami, Abhijit Singh and others were present during the press meet.
