AAI President Arjun Munda gives pep talk to archers at selection trial for Olympics in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Nov 25: Union Minister and president of Archery Association of India Arjun Munda on Wednesday said that there is an innate archery talent not only in Jharkhand but in the children of all village areas of the country. He said that the association is making every effort to boost such talent in village areas and give them a better platform.

The president was addressing a function organised on the second day of the selection trial for the National Archery Team for Tokyo 2021 Olympics at the JRD Sports Complex. He motivated the archers to hit the bull’s eye.   

Munda appreciated the role of Tatas in promoting the traditional sport and said that Tata Archery Academy is a cradle of producing champions. He motivated the players to bag medals in archery during the Olympic Games.

The talent of international archers Deepika Kumari, Gora Ho, Paltan Hansda was discovered by Munda himself. Apart from this, three dozen international and more than one hundred national level archers have emerged from this training academy so far. Even now dozens of national level players are being trained in the academy.

The selection trial will be conducted at JRD Tata Sports Complex till November 27. The core group of 8 Men and 8 women archers that was selected on the basis of selection trials before the postponement of Tokyo-Olympics will be exempted to participate in this trial. The selected archers from this trial will have to join the National Archery Coaching Coach immediately which is in progress at ASI, Pune for the preparation of Tokyo 2020-Olympic Games

Archers who have scored 650 & above (2 X 70 mtrs) in Recurve Men and 630 & above (2 X 70 mtrs) in Recurve Women in different events are eligible to take part in the ensuing Selection Trial.

In view of the Covid-19 situation, the following SOP are being followed by all the participants travelling to Jamshedpur for the selection trials. It will be mandatory for all the participants including archers, team officials and technical officials to undergo a covid test and carry the negative RT PCR test report issued not more than 48 hours before arriving at Jamshedpur. All participants will be subjected to body temperature check with an electronic thermometer as they enter the JRD sports complex premise on a daily basis. All participants are required to wear a face mask at all times while in the JRD Sports Complex except while shooting the arrows, during transit and out of the hotel room for safety reasons. All participants should have the ‘Aarogya Setu App’ on their mobile phones.
