10k COVID-19 tests to be conducted daily in Jamshedpur amid fears of second wave

Jamshedpur, Nov 25: Anticipating a second COVID-19 wave in the district, the administration has decided to step up Covid-19 testing from next week. In view of rising cases in the country, the administration is focused on conducting random tests.

“ As per our plans we are all geared up to conduct as many as 10,000 tests per day from next week having increased the current test rate of 2,000 per day. A majority of those who had been to their native places in Bihar, Odisha and Bengal are returning back to the steel city after the festival season. We have come up with kiosks at Tatanagar railway station and bus stands,” informed the official.

“From Monday we have started carrying out about 2,000 sample tests across the nine blocks in the East Singhbhum and also in Jamshedpur.   But as the people are still returning home to the steel city after the festive season, we fear a rise of the Coronavirus positive cases.  We have, therefore, decided to increase the number of tests from 2,000 to 10,000 from next week.  ,” the official said.

Meanwhile, the district administration has also increased the mask-checking drive in the city along the helmet checking. A police official revealed that they have carried out the drive at the points which are known as checking drive, but shortly such drive will also be conducted at the roads unknown for helmet or masking checking drive to nab the violators.

The health department has come up with five new testing centres in different areas like Thakkar Bappa School, Dhatkadih, Community Center Kagalnagar, Sonari, ME School, Jugsalai, Kerala Samajam School, Golmuri Skill Development Center, Pardih, Mango, and Sidhgora Town Hall, Bagunhatu.

Officials informed that at the centres antigen test reports will be available within half an hour. At the same time, the report of TRUNET or RT-PCR will be found after 24 hours. In the report, if a person is found infected and is willing to remain in home isolation, then he is currently being given relief. But, for this, he has to follow the rules of home isolation. At the same time, the message will go on his mobile when the report comes negative.

The administration has also converted Motilal Nehru Public School in Bistupur and Kerala Samajam Model School in Golmuri as camp jails. Apart from this, if the case increases then the professional college at Sidhgora and the professional flat at Kadma will be used.
