Mango Traffic Chaos Under Scanner; JDU Meets SP

Jamshedpur: Raising serious concerns over worsening traffic congestion and alleged irregularities in traffic enforcement, a delegation of the Janata Dal (United), East Singhbhum, led by district president Subodh Srivastava, met the City SP on Friday and submitted a detailed memorandum seeking urgent intervention.

The delegation highlighted the persistent traffic congestion in Mango, particularly on Payal Cinema Road, where the construction of a flyover down-ramp has significantly increased vehicular pressure on a single, narrow stretch, resulting in frequent traffic snarls and heightened accident risk.

The party demanded a permanent traffic management plan, alternative routing arrangements, and increased deployment of traffic personnel in the area.

JDU leaders also alleged that traffic checking drives in the city are being conducted in a manner that causes unnecessary inconvenience to commuters.

They pointed out that on one of Mango’s three major roads, checking is carried out at seven to eight different points, while the other two routes witness minimal enforcement, leading to severe bottlenecks on a single corridor.

Questioning the transparency of traffic enforcement, the delegation claimed that there is little public clarity regarding the number of vehicles penalized and the amount of fines collected during checking drives.

They urged the administration to maintain and display a daily public record of all traffic enforcement actions.

The party further advocated for the wider implementation of an online challan system in Jamshedpur, similar to other parts of Jharkhand.

They suggested that motorists unable to pay fines immediately should be issued digital challans instead of having their vehicles seized, allowing them to make payments later through official portals or legal channels.

Another major concern raised was traffic checking during school hours. According to JDU leaders, inspections beginning as early as 7 a.m. are causing significant hardship to schoolchildren and parents. They demanded a halt to traffic checking near schools during peak morning hours.

The delegation also alleged irregularities in the city’s no-entry pass system, claiming that while earlier only essential vehicles linked to Tata operations were permitted during restricted hours, private vehicle owners are now allegedly obtaining passes through unauthorized means.

The party demanded a thorough review and cancellation of all illegally issued passes.

Moreover, the JDU drew attention to illegal roadside parking on Bistupur Main Road, particularly on the stretch from Voltas Roundabout to Adityapur, alleging that unauthorized parking is obstructing traffic flow and causing inconvenience to the public.

The leaders further criticized the practice of traffic police conducting surprise checks from concealed locations away from the main road, claiming that sudden stops often cause motorists to lose balance, leading to accidents. They urged authorities to ensure that enforcement is carried out openly and systematically.

The City SP reportedly heard the delegation’s concerns and assured them that appropriate instructions would be issued to the concerned officials for the prompt resolution of the issues.
