Jamshedpur, April 19: Nine students along with a driver were injured when a school bus bumped into a tree near Station Road in Gamharia on Tuesday.
All the injured were rushed to Tata Main Hospital.
Of the injured, seven were discharged after first aid treatment, while the condition of the driver and two other students remained critical till the time of writing this news. The injured include Rahul Mahato (10), Sumitra (9), Rupesh (8), Deepak Kisku (12), Simita Hansda (9), Shyam Mahato (13), Abhishek Gorai (12) Ratan Gorai (12) and Tulsi, a 20-year-old bus driver.
According to sources, all the injured students are from Indira Gandhi Public Residential School under RIT police station area. On Tuesday morning, the school bus (JH05AN/9192) was taking children to school and as it reached Gamharia Station Road it uncontrollably it crashed against a tree at the side of the road.
Abhishek Gorai (13) , who is a class VI student of that school sustained injuries on his backbone and left hand broken, whereas a 12-year-old boy Ratan Gorai who is a student of class V sustained injuries in his chest. The driver, identified as Tilju (45) sustained severe head injuries.
Injured students Abhishek Gorai and Ratan Gorai have suffered intense blows in their chest and stomach. Doctors asked them to remain admit and might conduct operation. The bus driver Tulsi also received multiple injuries and he is also undergoing treatment at TMH.
According to information, there were about 30 students aboard the school bus, which was on high speed and hit the tree due to negligent driving. After the mishap, the tree was broken.
“It was really shocking. From the very beginning, we were shouting at the driver to go slow, but he was not paying heed to us,” said an injured.
As the news spread officer-in-charge, Gamharia police station, Adikant Mahto rushed to the spot and subsequently to the Tata Main Hospital where the injured were being treated. He stated that from the initial probe it appeared that the mishap took place due to the negligence of the driver.
He said that action will be taken as the negligence and steps will be taken to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
Laxmi Gorai, mother of Abhishek Gorai said that they had come to know about the mishap within 10 minutes of the mishap.
The Indira Gandhi Public Residential School is an English medium school having over 500 students from nursery to class VIII.
Though it is a residential school, most of the students come from the adjoining areas.
The principal of the school, Pervez Khan came to TMH soon after the news of mishap reached the school. Khan met the children who had sustained and had consoled the parents who had already reached at the hospital. He promised that he will ensure that incidents are not repeated.
