6th National Para Badminton Championship concludes amid much fanfare in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, March 24: The 6th National Para Badminton Championship 2023-24 organised by Tata Steel Sports Department concluded successfully at the Mohan Ahuja Stadium and New Badminton Hall, JRD Tata Sports Complex.

The tourney, organised between March 19 to 23, witnessed presence of Chanakya Chaudhary Vice President Corporate Services, Tata Steel S, Rajiv Mangal Vice President Safety Health & Sustainability, Tata Steel, Dr. Sudhir Rai General Manager Medical Services, Tata Steel, Sailesh Singh, Deputy President Tata Workers’ Union and Farzan Heerjee,  Former Chief Sports & Protocol, Tata Steel  as Chief Guests during the concluding events. Also present were Satish Singh, General Secretary, TWU, Rupesh Katiar, Secretary, East Singhbhum Badminton Association, K Prabhakar Rao, President Para Badminton Association, Sanjay Singh, Chairman, Sports Advisory Committee and Vinod Thakur, Union Committee Member, TWU.

Successful conduct of Championship was made possible with the collaborative efforts of Tata Steel, Tata Steel Foundation, Badminton Association of India, Para Olympics and Jharkhand Badminton Association. The tournament was aimed to promote inclusivity, celebrate diversity, and raise awareness about para sports in India.

The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from 22 states. More than 450 participants including 292 males, 72 females, referees, and officials who showcased their talent in this Championship.

The championship’s intense competitive atmosphere shined through, as top-ranking players such as Manoj Sarkar, Palak Kohli, Chirag Barecha, Manasi Joshi, and Nitesh Kumar competed fiercely for the prestigious Championship trophy.

The agility, speed, and precision showcased by athletes across 22 categories not only promised exhilarating matches but also delivered awe-inspiring performances that captivated spectators.

The presence of the mascot “Arohan,” embodying progress and resilience within the para badminton community, brings a distinctive and special element to the event.
