Jamshedpur, March 8: The 68th Annual Literary Conference of the Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Sammelan (NBBSS), Jamshedpur branch, was held on Sunday at the examination hall of Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Sonari. The event saw the participation of prominent literary figures, social activists and members of the Bengali literary community.
Shekhar Dey, social activist and partner of Sreeleathers, attended as the chief guest, while advocate and Bengal Club President Tapas Mitra was the special guest. Other dignitaries present included the committee’s Central General Secretary Anil Dhar, Regional President Manoj Satpati, Bipul Gupta and Swami Muktatmananda Ji Maharaj of Bharat Sevashram Sangha.
The first session of the conference focused on the theme ‘Mahasweta Devi in the Light of the Centenary,’ with Dr. Nayak Ali Khan, former head of the Bengali Department at Vidyasagar University and Dr. Shipra Bhattacharya, former head of the Bengali Department at Ranchi Women’s College, highlighting the literary and social contributions of the celebrated author.
During the event, Tapas Mitra, Soumya Sen, Shekhar Dey and Raju Dutta were felicitated for their contributions. Committee members Tapati Dutta, Purabi Ghosh, Purnima Banerjee and Shravani Banerjee were also honored.
The program included cultural performances, with Sushmita Ganguly reciting poetry and Bipul Gupta sharing insights on modern Bengali poetry. The second session featured a drama-music presentation directed by Samit Rakshit, involving performances by Jharna Kar, Shukla Roychowdhury, Prabir De, Hemant Sarkar, Soumya Sen, Bulbul Dutta, Tapati Dutta, Monalisa De and Pratiklekha Roy.
The conference concluded with the award distribution for winners of music, poetry recitation, rangoli and drawing competitions, celebrating the creativity and talent of participants.
This annual event reinforced the literary heritage of the Bengali community in Jamshedpur while honoring the legacy of prominent writers like Mahasweta Devi.
