65 year-old woman killed by elephant near Jamshedpur

Chandil, May 29: An elephant killed a 65 year-old woman, identified as Lilmani Mahato in Chirugora village of Ichagarh block in Seraikela-Kharsawan here on Sunday.

The victim was just at the threshold of her house around 5 am when the elephant caught her by its trunk and threw her with force on the ground. Lilmani was critically injured in the incident. She was taken to MGM Hospital where she died during treatment, sources said.

The villagers demanded compensation for the next of kin of the deceased and sought protection against elephants from forest department officials. They said they were in a state of panic after the early morning tragedy.
