600 farmers from Kolhan to attend Vaartaa 2017

Jamshedpur, Jan. 20: Making agriculture sustainable and a profitable venture for farmers has been among Tata Steel�s key community-centric interventions.

Continuing with its attempts to make farmers aware about emerging agrarian practices and help them interact with agriculture experts, Tata Steel will organise Vaartaa- An Agriculture Meet at Ganesh Puja Maidan, Kadma, Jamshedpur, from January 23-25, 2017.

As many as 600 farmers from across the Kolhan region�East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Seraikela – Kharsawan districts will participate in the third edition of the farmer-scientist meet, Vaartaa 2017.

Farmers from the three districts of Jharkhand will be coming face to face with scientists and experts from nationally-acclaimed agriculture research institutes, during sessions on like `climate resilient agriculture�, `vegetable marketing�, `integrated farming�, `lac cultivation�, `pisciculture� etc.

The sessions will be conducted by scientists and experts from International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Hyderabad; Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA), Hyderabad; Central Horticultural Experiment Station (CHES), Bhubaneswar; Central Rainfed Upland Rice Research Station (CRURRS) Hazaribagh etc.

Vaartaa 2017 will also feature an exhibition-cum-sale of farming implements, agriculture produce, seeds, compost, etc. An array of cultural performances will be there on all three days of the event. Vaarta 2017 will see felicitation of farmers who have benefitted by adopting integrated farming.
