6 succumb to Covid in Jamshedpur, highest single-day death toll of third wave

Recoveries in Jamshedpur outnumber new cases for 2nd day

Jamshedpur, Jan 17: Jamshedpur on Monday continued to record COVID-19 recoveries outnumbering the new infections for the second day with 591 people contracting the contagion and pushing the overall caseload to 63,509.

COVID-related fatalities remained high with 6 people including a 10-year-old boy succumbing to the virus in the last 24 hours taking the toll to 1096 till date, the health bulletin said.

According to East Singhbhum Covid-19 medical bulletin, as many as 1021 people have walked out of healthcare facilities aggregating 55697 and leaving 6716 active infections.

The number of samples tested today was at 7885 pushing the cumulative number of specimens examined so far to 2141136 till date.

10-year-old boy from Tirildih under Bagbera Police Station jurisdiction near Ghagidih jail died during treatment. Three children have died of Covid during the third wave while six Jamshedpur kids have died due to the virus. Earlier a 10-year-old from Jugsalai and 2-year-old died in the last one week. Meanwhile, 55-year-old Potka man, 75-year-old man from Subhash Colony, Dimna Road in Mango,72-year-old woman from Sidhgora Bara area, 59-year-old man from Mango Road No.4 and 57-year-old Jugsalai DB Road resident woman succumbed to the virus.

Jamshedpur’s positivity rate – the number of people testing positive for every 100 tests – was 7.50 percent with the latest addition in cases. 7885 samples were tested on Monday.

Fresh infections on Monday total active cases in the city to 6716.Kadma area of Steel City reported the maximum 83 cases on Monday. 76 cases have come from Telco, 57 from Mango, 79 from Sonari, 42 from Bistupur, 38 from Sakchi.

The positivity rate rose to 2.97 per cent in Jamshedpur.

The cumulative coronavirus case count stands at 63509 and the death count is now 1096, according to the latest health bulletin.

The new cases came out of the 7885 tests conducted on Monday.

7885 COVID-19 tests, including 1626 RT-PCR, 5969 RAT and 290 TrueNat were conducted in the last 24 hours in the city.

East Singhbhum district administration has conducted 804334 test per million in the district. The recovery rate in Jamshedpur is 88.14% while the mortality rate is 1.73%.

So far in Jamshedpur 2143903 samples have been collected out of which 2141136 have been tested and 2077627 have turned out to be negative.
